Man charged with murder in death of beloved Detroit-area neurosurgeon

Authorities have filed charges in the 2023 homicide of a beloved Detroit doctor. The body of Devon Hoover was found wrapped in carpet and stuffed in an attic crawl space at his home in the historic Boston-Edison neighborhood after family in Indiana said he hadn’t visited his dying mother. Thirty-four-year-old Desmond Burks was charged with first-degree murder, larceny and other crimes. The prosecutor says Burks was in a relationship with the neurosurgeon. There was no immediate comment from Burks' attorney. Burks is also charged with second-degree murder in an unrelated road rage confrontation.
