NATIONAL SUMMARY
Gusty winds and small hail can accompany downpours in
southeastern Montana, western South Dakota, western and
central Nebraska and north-central Kansas today. Farther to
the south, thunderstorms can bring flash flooding and
localized damaging wind gusts to northeastern Utah and
southwestern Wyoming. Showers and storms will affect the
Pacific Northwest. Gusty winds and dry brush will continue
to result in a high fire threat in the Great Basin. Cool air
will settle over the central valleys of California, where it
will feel more like October. The break from typical August
heat and humidity will continue in the Ohio Valley and the
mid-Atlantic. Farther west, heat and humidity will build
over the weekend and early next week. Meanwhile, dangerous
heat will remain in place over parts of Texas.
