New Mexico looking for a new state Public Education Department secretary for K-12 schools

New Mexico is again looking for a new state Public Education Department secretary for K-12 schools. Arsenio Romero resigned Wednesday, effective immediately, after about a year and a half on the job. Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham said in a statement that she and her staff will begin interviewing candidates to replace Romero immediately. New Mexico State University announced this month that Romero is one of five finalists in its search for a new president. The governor's spokesperson told the Santa Fe New Mexican that Lujan Grisham told Romero he could either withdraw his candidacy or resign as secretary. Romero was the fourth person to hold the job since 2019.
