Woman, shooter injured in shootout involving off-duty suburban cop in Washington Park
An off-duty police sergeant from southwest suburban Lyons was involved in a shootout that left a woman and one of the shooters wounded in Washington Park Saturday, police said.
Around 7 p.m. in the 5100 block of South Ellsworth Drive inside Washington Park, the sergeant got into an argument with a suspect who drew a gun, prompting the sergeant to identify themselves as a law enforcement official, according to Chicago police.
Then both began shooting, and a 46-year-old woman was shot in the crossfire. It's unclear whose shot struck her, authorities said.
The suspect was also shot multiple times, and he went to a nearby hospital where he was listed in serious condition.
The woman was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was listed in good condition.
Chicago police detectives and investigative response team are investigating the shooting.
