Taylor Swift endorses Kamala Harris in Instagram post
Taylor Swift endorsed Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in an Instagram post to her 283 million followers Tuesday night.
The post went up just minutes after the debate between Harris and Donald Trump ended.
"I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos. I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate @timwalz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades," the post reads.
Swift said she was "made aware that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted to his site," and that "the simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth."
Just before the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Trump posted an image of Swift in an Uncle Sam outfit and accepted her endorsement for his campaign, which she had never given, according to the Associated Press.
Trump's campaign brushed off Swift's endorsement of Harris in a statement, the Associated Press reported.
“This is further evidence that the Democrat Party has unfortunately become a party of the wealthy elites,” said spokesperson Karoline Leavitt.
Swift previously endorsed Harris and Joe Biden in an X post in 2020.
