Movie Review: Angelina Jolie is graceful and sharp as opera star Maria Callas in 'Maria'
Angelina Jolie glides through the final days of Maria Callas in Pablo Larraín’s “Maria." Currently playing in select theaters and streaming on Netflix Dec. 11, “Maria," rated R, plays like an opera, grandly theatrical and evocative of a larger-than-life star. The film shifts between past and present in her final week in Paris, where she died at 53 in 1977. Associated Press Film Writer Lindsey Bahr writes in her review that it is a fitting elegy to the famed soprano but cautions that if “Jackie” and “Spencer” did not speak to you, “Maria” will not turn you into a believer.
