About 3:30 p.m. Thursday, the 62-year-old was sitting inside his home in the 4000 block of West Monroe Street when someone fired through his window, striking him in the head, Chicago police said.
He was initially transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition but was pronounced dead Saturday afternoon.
The Cook County medical examiner's office has identified him as Ignacio Mendiola.
Gad Hughes, 29, of Cicero, was arrested Friday in the 200 block of West Garfield Boulevard, police said.
He was charged with first-degree murder and possession of heroin.
