Bears WR DJ Moore on Matt Eberflus firing: 'Figured that was going to happen'
Bears receiver DJ Moore said Monday morning that he could see the firing of head coach Matt Eberflus coming.
"As the season was going, you just kind of figured that was going to happen," he told WSCR-AM as part of a paid appearance. "Thursday at the end of the game was the last straw, I feel like.
"They did [fire him]. Now we got [Thomas Brown] as the interim head coach, and we're going to go out there and play for him."
Eberflus allowed Thursday's game against the Lions to end despite having a timeout in his pocket. Rather than use the timeout to stop the clock, Eberflus watched as time expired when quarterback Caleb Williams changed a play at the time of scrimmage and heaved a pass to Rome Odunze. The clock hit zero one second before the ball fell to the ground.
"I feel like the coach has got to call a timeout and regroup us," Moore said.
Moore, who signed a contract extension in August, hasn't been shy about showing his opinions this season, be it through his words or body language. He's been frustrated by his own production — he's on pace for just 939 receiving yards this season after posting a career-high 1,364 last year. He's better under Brown's play-calling — in the last three weeks, he's totaled 265 receiving yards.
Moore said that when general manager Ryan Poles called to tell him the news he promised the next coach would be a "leader of men."
