Sky will begin 2025 season on the road against Fever

Sky fans need to start making plans now for the 2025 season opener, which will begin on the road for the third consecutive year.

This time, however, the franchise will open its 20th season in Indianapolis against the Fever on May 17 as part of the league's Day 2 slate of games during opening weekend. Opening night will feature three games. First, the Dream against the Mystics on the road and the Lynx against the Wings, who have the first overall pick in the upcoming draft, in Dallas with a 6:30 tipoff time for both games. The nightcap will feature the Sparks against the Valkyries in San Francisco with tipoff scheduled for 9 p.m.

All four of the Sky's meetings against the Fever last year were sellouts. The Sky and Fever will meet four more times after their season opener, at Wintrust Arena on June 7 and June 26 and at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Aug. 9 and Sept. 5. Indianapolis will also host the league's 21st All-Star game on July 19. It is the first time the Fever have hosted the exhibition.

The WNBA's expanded 44-game schedule means the Sky will play 22 on the road and 22 at home. Their home opener will be on May 22 against the reigning WNBA champion Liberty.

Other schedule highlights for the Sky include three games against the Golden State Valkyries, the WNBA's newest franchise. Their first meeting is in San Francisco on June 27. The Sky will host the Valkyries at Wintrust Arena on Aug. 1 and Aug 15.

Sky coach Tyler Marsh will get his first opportunity to coach against Becky Hammon and the Aces on Aug. 25 at Wintrust Arena. They will play the Aces twice on the road Sept. 7 and Sept. 9 at T-Mobile Arena.

The Commissioner's Cup will feature the structure that debuted in 2024, with every team playing one game each against their division rivals and five total. The Sky's first Cup game will be against the Fever on June 7. Then they'll face the Liberty on June 10, the Dream on June 13, the Sun on June 15 and the Mystics on June 17. The team with the best record from each conference will compete for a prize pool of $500,000 in the championship game scheduled for July 1. The game will be played at the team's arena with the best record in cup play.

The Sky will play six games in May, 10 in June, 10 in July, 13 in August and five in September. Their regular-season finale will be at Wintrust Arena on Sept. 11 against the Liberty.
