Ohio gov signs bill requiring schools to tell parents about health care changes, 'sexuality content'
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine has signed legislation that boosts the rights of parents to know when schools are changing their child’s health care or preparing to present lessons involving sexuality or gender. He signed the Republican-backed measure Wednesday. Parents can opt out of the healthcare or the lessons under the legislation, which has been named the “Parents' Bill of Rights.” It comes as conservatives increasingly criticize public schools as too liberal. Opponents decried the bill as forcing schools to “out” LGBTQ+ students. The legislation also requires districts to allow students to leave school during the day for periods of religious instruction.
