Burkina Faso forces killed at least 100 civilians in a March attack, Human Rights Watch says
Human Rights Watch says at least 100 civilians in Burkina Faso were killed by government forces near the town of Solenzo in the western Boucle du Mouhoun region in an attack in March. According to victim testimony and videos shared on social media, the attackers were Burkina Faso special forces and members of a militia called the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland. The victims were all ethnic Fulani, a pastoralist community that is widespread across the region. The Burkina Faso government has long accused the Fulani of supporting Muslim militants. The government denied its involvement when the allegations first surfaced. Authorities did not immediately comment on the latest report Monday.
