Indonesian rescuers search for missing students after school collapse kills 37

Indonesian rescuers are searching for 26 missing students after a prayer hall at an Islamic boarding school collapsed due to structural failure. They have recovered 23 bodies, bringing the death toll to 37. The collapse happened on Sept. 30 at the Al Khozin school in Sidoarjo, Java. Police said two levels were added to the building without a permit, causing the collapse. This has triggered anger over illegal construction in Indonesia. East Java Police Chief Nanang Avianto said on Sunday that the investigation will determine whether negligence by the school led to the deaths.
