Florida executes a man convicted of killing a woman during a 1989 home invasion

A man convicted of killing a woman during a home invasion robbery has been executed in Florida. Mark Allen Geralds received a lethal injection Tuesday evening at Florida State Prison near Starke. He was sentenced to death for the fatal stabbing of Tressa Pettibone at her Panama City home on Feb. 1, 1989. Court records show the woman’s 8-year-old son returned from school that day to find his mother dead on the kitchen floor. Geralds was a carpenter who had previously done remodeling work at the home. Florida has put more people to death than any other state this year, with 18 executions to date in 2025 and one more planned next week.
