In post-Assad Syria's chaos, Alawite women face sexual violence

A woman from Syria's Alawite minority has spoken about her harrowing experience of being kidnapped and raped by gunmen. Since the fall of former Syrian president Bashar Assad a year ago, dozens of Alawite women have faced similar attacks, according to rights groups. These assaults, often by Sunni extremists, appear motivated by sectarian hate. Amnesty International reports at least 36 Alawite women and girls have been abducted this year. Victims say Syria's new authorities are not doing enough to stop the attacks. Some survivors have fled the country, fearing further reprisals. The situation remains dire, with calls for more action to protect these women.
