Bears' Cairo Santos named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week

The Bears' Cairo Santos — who made three field goals and an extra point and converted an onside kick in Saturday's 22-16 win against the Packers — was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week on Wednesday.

Santos made kicks of 43, 46 and 51 yards despite a swirling wind that he said was one of the most difficult kicking conditions he'd experienced at Soldier Field. He also made an extra point in the final seconds of regulation. The Bears only had a chance to score because of the onside kick that Santos booted — and the team recovered — with 1:59 to play.

The Bears hadn't converted an onside kick since Week 12 last year.

The Bears have had five NFC Special Teams Player of the Week winners over the past two years, including kicker Jake Moody, who served as Santos' backup and was later claimed off the practice squad by the Commanders.
