25 killed in attack by Islamic State-backed group in eastern Congo, rights group says

A militant group linked to the Islamic State has attacked eastern Congo, killing at least 25 people. The Alliance Democratic Force, or ADF, carried out the assault early Sunday, according to a rights group in Ituri province. Victims include 15 men burned alive and seven shot in Apakulu village. Three others were killed in Walese Vonkutu. The ADF has not issued a statement. The eastern region has faced multiple attacks recently by armed groups, including the ADF and M23 rebels. The ADF, originally from Uganda, has been active in Congo after being pushed out by Ugandan military forces.
