Spanish police arrest 3 men for shipping dried opium poppy by mail
Spanish police have arrested three men for allegedly shipping dried opium poppy capsules by mail inside the country and abroad, including to the United States. The Civil Guard on Saturday said officers arrested three men and charged them with drug trafficking crimes. The case began in September 2025, after officers intercepted several postal shipments at Alicante airport. Tests identified the plant as opium poppy, which links directly to opium production. Investigators say the parcels share a family name and trace back to addresses in Los Alcázares.
