Car fails to slow down, crashes into fire truck on I-57

A car crashed into a Chicago Fire Department ladder truck early Sunday on I-57, according to the Illinois State Police.

The fire truck was responding to a previous car crash on the highway near 99th Street. The truck had its lights on and was stationary in the northbound left and center lanes when a silver Chevrolet failed to slow down and crashed into the front of the truck at around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, according to state police.

Several people were injured and taken to nearby hospitals. State police did not say how many people were injured or the severity of their wounds.

All northbound lanes reopened by 4:30 a.m. Sunday.
