Guinea releases 16 soldiers and police officers from Sierra Leone after border dispute

Guinea releases 16 Sierra Leone soldiers and police after a tense arrest tied to a long-running border dispute. Sierra Leone’s information ministry say Friday that Guinean authorities handed back the officers safely. The ministry says the release follows a trip to Guinea’s capital by a delegation led by the foreign minister. Sierra Leone says Guinean troops seized the team earlier in the week and took them across the border. Guinea says the group crossed into its territory without permission and raised a flag. The dispute stretches back to Sierra Leone’s civil war between 1991 and 2002.
