Venezuela’s opposition leader Machado says she will return to the country in the coming weeks

María Corina Machado says she plans to return to Venezuela soon and push for new elections. On Sunday, she says her goal is a “gigantic electoral victory.” She urges supporters to rebuild the unity formed during the 2023 opposition primaries. Acting President Delcy Rodríguez, who has led since a U.S. operation captured Nicolás Maduro in January, warns Machado “will have to answer” if she returns. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio says change needs stabilization and recovery first. Machado won the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. Protests followed disputed July 2024 election results.
