GOP challenger Steve Toth ousts Rep. Dan Crenshaw in Texas primary

U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw of Texas has lost his reelection bid in a GOP primary election to a conservative state lawmaker from Conroe. The 41-year-old former Navy SEAL was one of the most recognizable members of the Texas delegation, but he also had an independent streak that sometimes clashed with fellow Republicans. He was defeated Tuesday by state Rep. Steve Toth, a member of the right-wing faction of the Republican caucus in the Texas House. Toth enjoyed an endorsement from U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz. President Donald Trump did not endorse a candidate in the race. Crenshaw had clashed with Cruz over the senator’s support of Trump’s unfounded claim that he won the 2020 election.
