The White House wants to build an underground center to provide security screening for visitors
The White House wants to build an underground center to provide security screening before visitors access the grounds. Plans for the 33,000-square-foot center were listed on the preliminary agenda for the April meeting of a federal commission that approves construction on federal land in Washington. According to the plans submitted by the White House, the visitor's center would be built beneath Sherman Park, located southeast of the White House. It would replace a series of trailer-type structures currently used for visitor screening. The White House wants it operating by July 2028.
