Engineers built an experimental stretch of road using about 530,000 plastic bags, 168,000 glass bottles and 12,500 discarded printer cartridges. The materials were processed and added to the asphalt, turning household and industrial waste into part of the road itself. It was an unusual way to tackle two problems at once: waste and the demand for new road materials.
