Jaclyn Jose wins Best Actress at Cannes

By Jojo P. Panaligan and AFP Jaclyn Jose became the first Filipino to win the Best Actress award from the 69th Cannes Film Festival Sunday for her mesmerizing performance as a slum matriarch who falls prey to police  corruption. The movie, “Ma’Rosa” was directed by Brillante Mendoza, who in 2009 became the first Filipino to win best director at the festival for “Kinatay.” Nominated along with Jose were Hollywood stars Charlize Theron, Kristen Stewart and Elle Fanning, as well as French actresses Isabelle Hupert and Marion Cotillard. Gilas Cadets start SEABA bid in style

Game Today (Stadium 29, Bangkok) 5 p.m. – Singapore vs Philippines Former UAAP rivals Troy Rosario and Mac Belo led the Gilas Cadets to a breezy 108-84 victory over Malaysia on Sunday at the start of the SEABA Stankovic Cup at the Stadium 29 in Bangkok, Thailand. Rosario scored a team-high 19 points, most of them in the first half where the Philippines opened a 12-point cushion. P164-B remittances from GOCCs under Aquino’s term

Employees of government owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs) truly deserve higher compensation following the record-high remittances to the National Treasury in the past six years, President Aquino declared on Monday. The President lauded the GOCCs for their hard work after handing over P40.2 billion worth of checks during the GOCC Day in Malacañang. This year’s dividends and other remittances by 49 GOCCs increased from P36.36 billion in 2015. A total of P164.33 billion have been remitted by GOCCs under Aquino’s watch, higher than the P84.
