Lowcountry officers killed in the line of duty added to Statehouse memorial
COLUMBIA — One was a Charleston County chain gang captain whose throat was slit during an attempted escape in 1906. Another was a Charleston County magistrate’s constable who was shot and killed in 1893 while trying to serve a warrant on a murder suspect.
