“Earthquake near Konaev“: Emergency Situations Department responds to alarming posts

Tengrinews.kz – Information about an alleged 4.1-magnitude earthquake with an epicenter eight kilometers from the city of Konaev is being circulated on social media and in messengers. The Almaty Region Emergency Situations Department (DES) has commented on these reports.
The agency clarified that, according to the network of seismic stations of the Emergency Situations Ministry, no earthquake has been recorded in the territory of Almaty Region or near the city of Konaev.

“There have been no calls from the public, nor any reports of damage or casualties,” the regional DES stated.

The department also urged residents and visitors of Konaev to remain calm and to rely only on official sources of information. It added that in the event of an emergency, people should call 112.
Earlier, the Almaty DES published the recommendations “10 steps during an earthquake”:

Stay calm, do not panic;
Do not use the elevator or stairways during the tremors;Move away from furniture, windows, and chandeliers;
Find shelter and cover your head with your hands;
Leave the building after the tremors stop;
Turn off water, gas, and electricity before leaving;
Take your emergency kit (which should be prepared in advance);Stay away from power lines, buildings, and trees;
Be prepared for aftershocks;
Help children, elderly people, and people with disabilities.
