“You have a friend in the White House”: Trump’s special envoy meets Tokayev in Astana

Tengrinews.kz – The President of Kazakhstan received Sergio Gor, Special Envoy of the President of the United States for South and Central Asia, citing Akorda.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted the high level of Kazakh-American cooperation and reaffirmed his commitment to further strengthening the expanded strategic partnership with the United States of America.

“We highly value the opportunity to discuss a wide range of pressing issues and especially welcome your participation in the C5+1 dialogue on critical minerals. This underscores the strategic importance that the United States attaches to cooperation with Kazakhstan and the whole of Central Asia. I would also like to note your personal contribution to the development of bilateral ties. Kazakhstan is firmly committed to further deepening its expanded strategic partnership with the United States of America. Taking this opportunity, I ask you to convey my best wishes and sincere respect to U.S. President Donald Trump. I look forward to meeting with him at the end of this year and would like to express my gratitude for the invitation to take part in the G20 summit in Miami,” the Head of State said.


Sergio Gor thanked Kassym-Jomart Tokayev for the opportunity to meet and conveyed greetings from President Donald Trump.

“I can assure you that you have a friend in the White House. President Trump highly appreciates your work. We strive to find mutually beneficial solutions in the interests of our countries. This is also evidenced by the growing dynamics of contacts between the United States and the states of the region. Over the past year alone, agreements have been reached and deals worth more than $20 billion have been concluded, and I am confident this is only the beginning. We are also pleased with your participation in the G20 summit at the end of the year,” the special envoy emphasized.


The parties discussed practical aspects of implementing joint trade, economic and investment projects, as well as prospects for cooperation in priority areas, including critical minerals, transport and logistics, digitalization and other sectors.
Special attention was paid to the activities of the Peace Council, one of the co-founders of which is Kazakhstan.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev confirmed Kazakhstan’s readiness to contribute to strengthening international stability and promoting humanitarian initiatives.
The sides also exchanged views on current issues on the regional and global agenda.
