Head of CEC reported to Tokayev on preparations for Kurultai elections

The President was briefed on the progress of preparations for the Kurultai deputy elections, scheduled for August 23, 2026.

The President emphasized the historic nature and particular socio-political significance of the current electoral campaign.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted the importance of conducting the elections based on the principle of "Law and Order," ensuring transparency and equal conditions for all participants.

Elections to the Kurultai (the unicameral parliament of Kazakhstan) are scheduled for August 23.The Kurultai consists of 145 deputies elected under a proportional system. Seven political parties have been cleared to participate in the elections.

Election campaigning officially began in Kazakhstan on July 23. Until midnight on August 22, parties and candidates are permitted to hold meetings with voters, distribute campaign materials, and present their platforms.

By August 2, regional akims submitted voter lists for each polling station to the precinct election commissions. As of August 3, the voter lists include 12,605,788 people.

August 22 declared Day of Silence during which all campaigning is prohibited.

According to the schedule, polling stations will be open on August 23 from 07:00 to 20:00, unless specific territorial commissions provide for alternative hours for the convenience of citizens.

The upcoming elections will be the tenth parliamentary elections in Kazakhstan since 1991 and the first elections to the Kurultai, established in accordance with the new Constitution adopted in the 2026 constitutional referendum. To date, the Mazhilis and Senate have ceased operations, and the deputies have been dissolved.
