5.9 billion tenge returned to defrauded Kazakhstanis

Tengrinews.kz — In recent years, 5.9 billion tenge has been returned to victims of online fraud in Kazakhstan. Over the past three years, the number of such crimes has decreased by 40 percent, while the detection rate has risen by 29.9 percent, according to the government’s press service.
How Kazakhstan is fighting online fraud
One of the tools used to combat cybercrime is the National Bank’s Anti-Fraud Center. Thanks to its work, more than 117 billion tenge has been blocked.
Kazakhstan has also introduced criminal liability for money mule activity — participation in schemes involving the transfer or cashing out of money obtained through criminal means.
What measures have been taken to protect data
The protection of personal data has been enshrined at the constitutional level. Mandatory biometric verification has also been introduced for access to databases containing medical, banking and other sensitive information.
Organizations are required to notify citizens of data breaches. The Labor Code has also been amended to include provisions on training employees in cyber hygiene, while oversight of the protection of critical infrastructure has been transferred to the National Security Committee.
What free services are available to Kazakhstanis
Several tools are available to help citizens protect their money and personal data:

StopCredit in eGov Mobile — allows users to voluntarily block themselves from taking out loans. As of June 1, 2026, the service had been used 6.3 million times.
Access Control service in eGov — allows users to check and revoke consent for the processing of personal data.
NomadGuard — helps check for possible data leaks and detect phishing.
Cyber literacy courses — available on eGov and the CitizenSec platform.

Kazakhstanis were also reminded of basic digital security rules: never share SMS codes or passwords with others, check links before opening them, and enable two-factor authentication.
