Unusual bicycle theft scheme uncovered in Karaganda
Tengrinews.kz — A man and a woman have been detained in Karaganda on suspicion of a series of bicycle thefts. According to police, they moved around together, apparently counting on the fact that a couple with a bicycle would not arouse suspicion among passersby, according to Polisia.kz.
Police said three city residents were targeted over a five-day period. The total damage exceeded 300,000 tenge.
After receiving the complaints, officers carried out search operations and detained the suspects, local residents aged 33 and 29.
Police believe the man and woman acted together to avoid attracting attention. A pre-trial investigation has been launched against them. Both suspects have been placed in a temporary detention facility.
Police are now checking whether they may be involved in other similar thefts in the city.
Authorities urged residents not to leave bicycles, scooters and baby strollers unattended in apartment building entrances or outside stores. They also recommended using reliable anti-theft locks and not relying solely on surveillance cameras.
