37 cases and budget audit: commission reveals first findings from Defense Ministry inspection

Tengrinews.kz — A commission formed on the President’s instructions has presented interim results of a comprehensive inspection of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Defense. The review covered more than 104 ministry facilities, while pretrial investigations have been launched into some of the violations identified, according to Akorda.
What is being checked at the Defense Ministry
The commission is paying particular attention to the safety of servicemen and conditions of military service. It is also reviewing the quality of food and clothing supplies, medical care and the safeguarding of state property.
An audit of the efficiency of budget spending is also continuing.

“To date, 37 cases are under review by criminal prosecution authorities. In the interests of the investigation, information on them cannot be disclosed at this stage,” the statement said.

Inspection findings being used for military reform
The inspection is being conducted in line with the “Law and Order” principle and is aimed at developing systemic measures to ensure the combat readiness of the Armed Forces and strengthen military discipline.
The commission’s recommendations are also being used in the implementation of the Military Reform Plan. The commission is expected to complete its work in November.
What led to the inspection
The commission tasked with conducting a comprehensive review of the situation at the Defense Ministry was established in late September on the instructions of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. This followed the deaths of 14 servicemen during exercises in the Caspian Sea.
On October 21, at a Security Council meeting chaired by Tokayev, the Military Reform Plan was approved. On October 24, the Ministry of Defense announced that implementation had begun.
