For over 30 years, Cameron Mackintosh’s mega-musical Les Misérables (Les Mis), written by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg, has deftly continued to mesmerize its audience, regardless if they’ve seen it many times over on Broadway, on West End, or at the Barbican; read Victor Hugo’s literary masterpiece in French, seen the movie, only knew its songs from an episode of Ryan Murphy’s Glee, or have no idea what it is about before entering the theater.
