Azerbaijan continues ceasefire violations after Geneva summit

After the meeting between the Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents in Geneva, Azerbaijan continues the ceasefire violations on the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) frontline, voicing speculations time and again, Armenia's foreign minister said Friday.

Speaking at a news conference held jointly with Witold Waszczykowski, the foreign minister of Poland, Edward Nalbandian regretted to note that the armed incidents result also in casualties.  

“We share the Polish foreign minister’s view that there is no alternative to the exclusively peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, based on the principles of international law,” he said.

Nalbandian noted further that the two countries are marking the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2017.

“The Armenian community in Poland is a steady bridge between the two friendly countries. Over the past centuries, the Armenians in Poland have been deserved citizens: talented state and military figures, scholars and art critics. Different events dedicated to the Polish-Armenians were held over the past year, including exhibitions, concerts and scientific conferences,” he said, adding that Polish President Andrzej Duda also gave a special reception to mark the occasion.

“Ever since establishing diplomatic relations, our countries managed – through high-ranking mutual visits, effective political dialogue and legal-contractual cooperation - to establish steady grounds to contribute to the comprehensive and meaningful development of the Armenian-Polish relations on both the bilateral and multi-lateral level,” he said.

Nalbandian also appreciated the Armenians’ role in the history of Poland.

“The exhibition entitled ‘Armenians in Poland’ has opened in the Senate. All this is more than just a symbol of the centuries-old friendship. In 2005, the Polish Sejm adopted a resolution on recognizing the Armenian Genicide and in 2015, it co-authored the genocide prevention resolution initiated by the UN Council,” he said.

The minister also highlighted the two countries' great economoc potential.
