US Senate confirms Kazakhstan native for senior post

Tengrinews.kz – The U.S. Senate has confirmed Asel Roberts as the U.S. Ambassador to Slovenia.
The information was published on the Senate website following a vote held on May 18.
It should be noted that she became the first ethnic Kazakh woman in U.S. history to be confirmed as an ambassador.
In February this year, the U.S. Department of State prepared a report for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. It stated that Asel Roberts serves as a senior adviser in the Office of the Chief of Protocol at the State Department. She has worked in the office for nearly 20 years, successfully coordinating cooperation with U.S. diplomatic missions across several continents and holding negotiations with representatives of many foreign states.
In the Office of the Chief of Protocol, Asel Roberts held various positions, including Acting Chief of Protocol, Deputy Assistant Chief of Protocol for Visits, and Protocol Officer for Diplomatic Affairs. She also worked at the White House in the Office of the Vice President of the United States.
In addition to serving as Acting Chief of Protocol during the 2020–2021 presidential transition, Asel Roberts worked with five presidential administrations, taking part in organizing international summits and high-level meetings.

“Her extensive management experience, outstanding interpersonal skills, previous work at U.S. embassies and ability to act on behalf of the President qualify Ms. Roberts to serve as U.S. Ambassador to Slovenia,” the report said.

She graduated from Georgetown University’s Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service with a bachelor’s degree in international law and international organizations. She speaks Kazakh, English, Russian and Japanese.
