Cancer drug being prepared for registration in Kazakhstan

Tengrinews.kz — A Kazakh cancer drug could become available as early as 2027. The medicine is currently undergoing the second stage of clinical trials involving patients, after which it is expected to proceed to registration. This was announced by Minister of Science and Higher Education Sayasat Nurbek.
According to the minister, the trials are being conducted in Astana at the capital’s oncology center. At this stage, specialists are determining the required dosage of the drug and studying how patients’ bodies respond to different doses.

“Right now, we are specifically testing the dosage on patients. We will try to complete all these procedures by the end of this year and submit the drug for registration,” Sayasat Nurbek said at a government briefing.

After the second stage of clinical trials is completed, the confirmed results will be submitted for expert review. As the minister explained, the drug will then have to go through the registration procedure at the National Center for Expertise of Medicines. According to Nurbek, the developers are currently at the penultimate stage before registration.
Asked when the drug could become available in Kazakhstan, Nurbek said it would most likely happen next year.

“To be more precise, most likely next year, because by the end of this year we need to complete all these procedures and coordinate the process with the Ministry of Healthcare,” the minister explained.

Initially, the drug is expected to be registered for use in Kazakhstan and across the Eurasian Economic Union. If the developers later decide to enter other markets, the medicine will have to undergo registration procedures in accordance with the requirements of the respective countries, he added.
What is known about Kazakhstan’s cancer drug
In November 2025, it was reported that the domestically developed anti-cancer drug had entered a decisive stage of clinical trials. Developer Dos Sarbassov said preclinical studies on animals had been successful.
At the new stage, the treatment approach was changed: the drug began to be administered before standard chemotherapy in order to assess its direct effect on tumors and metastases, as well as how well patients tolerate it.
On March 31 this year, it was announced that clinical trials of the Kazakh cancer drug DVC had begun in patients.
The trials were conducted at the National Research Oncology Center, where modern treatment methods are also being introduced, including AI-assisted adaptive radiation therapy. According to the center, more than 80 percent of patients had been treated, and specialists assessed the results positively.
In May this year, Sayasat Nurbek said the first stage of human trials had been completed. Preliminary results were encouraging: all study participants survived, while tumors shrank in some patients.
