A fateful moment will come this Sunday – Tokayev on the first elections to the Kurultai

Tengrinews.kz — President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has described the upcoming Kurultai elections as a watershed moment for the country. He made the statement in an address to the people of Kazakhstan.
The President noted that the new legislative body must serve as a unified platform for constructive views and aspirations.

"The Kurultai will set a high pace for the further modernization of the country," he stated.

According to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, against a backdrop of unprecedented geopolitical tension and mounting global challenges, Kazakhstan must consistently implement its strategy to become a developed nation.

"We face difficult tasks ahead to join the ranks of the world's leading countries," the President emphasized.

The Head of State also expressed confidence that the national vote will result in the election of professionals and patriots to the Kurultai.

"Often, the value of major decisions is only realized years later. This Sunday marks just such a fateful moment, as we turn a new page in the history of Kazakhstan," said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

The upcoming Kurultai elections on August 23rd will open a new chapter in Kazakhstan's political system.
These are the first elections since the new Constitution came into force on July 1st, which dissolved the bicameral Parliament (Mazhilis and Senate). Seven political parties have put forward lists of varying sizes to compete for 145 mandates in the new unicameral body.
This parliamentary campaign will be the country's tenth since 1991.
Earlier, the President noted that the Kurultai elections will be a pivotal event in the life of the nation. He emphasized that Kazakhstan has embarked on a path of comprehensive modernization, reflected in fundamental changes across all spheres of public life.
