Scammers find new way to defraud residents in Mangystau Region

Tengrinews.kz — Cases of telephone fraud have recently become more frequent in the Mangystau Region, with scammers calling residents and posing as employees of MREK JSC (Mangystau Regional Electricity Grid Company), allegedly offering paid electricity meter verification services, according to Lada.kz.
The energy company urged residents to remain vigilant and not fall for scammers’ tricks.

“Please remain vigilant. Our organization does not carry out verification of metering devices. We do not have the relevant licenses, certificates or laboratories,” the company said.

In 2025, Aktau residents also encountered a similar fraud scheme. Scammers posed as employees of MREK JSC and AUES municipal enterprise and, under the pretext of replacing or inspecting electricity meters, asked victims to provide a code allegedly sent from the short number 1414.
