The government is studying the situation – Tokayev on social benefits and payments
Tengrinews.kz — The Government of Kazakhstan is reviewing the country’s social benefits and payments system. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced the move, noting that some expenditures may constitute an inefficient use of budget funds.
Speaking at a ceremony marking Republic Day, the Head of State noted that 88 trillion tenge has been allocated to the development of the social sphere over the past seven years. According to him, these funds should be viewed as an investment in improving the welfare of the population.
"To date, the quality of medical services is improving in all regions, especially in rural and remote areas. Since 2019, 1,259 medical facilities have been built across the country. The Constitution clearly establishes the right to a guaranteed volume of free medical care. Our citizens have access to more than a thousand types of free medical services. Without exaggeration, this is an absolutely unique format of social support," Tokayev stated.
In addition, according to the President, more than 1.7 million students are provided with free hot meals in all schools, including all primary school pupils and children from socially vulnerable groups.
"Kazakhstan has a large number of social benefits; however, certain types of payments are more akin to a waste of resources. In this regard, the government is currently conducting a detailed analysis of this sector to address the situation," the President added.
As a reminder, Kazakhstan is overhauling its system for assigning benefits. Depending on their level of well-being, citizens will be categorized into one of five groups: A, B, C, D, or E. This classification will determine the amount of the payment or whether it is granted at all.
The new approach will take effect in Kazakhstan on January 1, 2027.
