Tokayev congratulated the new president of Bulgaria

Tengrinews.kz — Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has sent a telegram of congratulations to the President of Bulgaria.
The Head of State congratulated Iliyana Iotova on her election as President of the Republic of Bulgaria.

"Your convincing victory in the elections is undoubtedly a clear testament to the high level of trust the people place in you and their support for your initiatives aimed at ensuring the country's sustainable development," the telegram reads.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev wished Iliyana Iotova success in her distinguished post, and prosperity and well-being to the friendly people of Bulgaria.
On November 1, Bulgaria held the second round of its presidential election, won by the country's acting president, Iliyana Iotova. According to the Bulgarian Central Election Commission, with 100 percent of ballots counted, Iotova secured 57.5 percent of the vote, while her main rival, former interim prime minister Andrey Gyurov, received 39.5 percent.
Earlier, the candidacy of the 62-year-old Iotova was supported by Prime Minister Rumen Radev’s "Progressive Bulgaria" party, which won an absolute majority in the April parliamentary elections. Analysts suggest that Iotova’s victory will keep the presidency in the hands of the ruling pro-Russian majority.

The presidency in Bulgaria is a primarily ceremonial role. Although the head of state lacks executive power and all major political decisions must be approved by parliament, direct elections provide the president with significant political authority. The president serves as commander-in-chief of the armed forces, holds the power to veto legislation, signs international treaties, and appoints ambassadors.
Bulgarian presidents are elected by direct popular vote for a five-year term and are limited to serving no more than two terms.
