McSweeney: Pudzianowski got kicked out of ‘World’s Strongest Man’ for steroids and cocaine

Ahead of his clash with Mariusz Pudzianowski at KSW 40, heavyweight James McSweeney comes out swinging.

In the run up to KSW 40, the promotion’s first visit to the emerald isle, WHOA TV caught up with one half of the main event, James McSweeney. Up until recently McSweeney had exited the sport after a run of four defeats in five fights, with just a win over Marcin Różalski at KSW Wembley.

McSweeney was in particularly fine form as we discussed what many are calling a chance at redemption for him, as he prepares to face Mariusz Pudzianowski, the former ‘Worlds Strongest Man,’ a term which seemed to irk McSweeney.

“It’s funny because everybody focuses on Mariusz this and Mariusz that as if I haven’t done [anything],” McSweeney said. “No one refers to what I did 10 years ago. People refer to me in what I did in this fight or that fight in MMA, in ONE FC, UFC, or any of these shows, which are relevant, because it’s in the last five years, for example. Everyone refers to Mariusz as the ‘World’s Strongest Man.’ He hasn’t been doing the ‘World’s Strongest Man’ in over 10 years and he got kicked out of that sport for abusing steroids and cocaine. So to be honest with you, that just goes to show how much relevance he has in MMA. ”

McSweeney is resolute in what he views as the inevitable when they meet face to face come Sunday evening. It appears to be the fight that has him motivated to make a statement that he has returned. His method of finishing Pudzianowski appears firmly etched in his gameplan when he comments on the finish he is wants to manifest, “He’s gonna be a great person to knock out in the 3Arena, because he has a big following, not because he’s a big MMA fighter.”
