Police catch suspect selling stolen goods
A man will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court for attempting to pawn a stolen toolbox and its contents.
|||Johannesburg – A suspect has been arrested after he was caught allegedly trying to sell a stolen toolbox and its contents, Johannesburg police said on Thursday.
Johannesburg Central Police’s Warrant Officer Xoli Mbele said station members apprehended the 43-year-old male on Wednesday on suspicion of theft out of a motor vehicle.
The arrest took place at the corner of Small and Frederick streets after the suspect was allegedly caught on CCTV footage forcefully opening the back of a white Nissan Hardbody. The vehicle was parked on the corner of Kruis and Main streets, a short distance from where the arrest was made.
According to police, CCTV footage captured the suspect stealing a toolbox and an extension cord from the vehicle.
“Police were contacted and while patrolling around they saw the suspect busy selling the toolbox; he was apprehended and some of the tools recovered,” said Mbele.
The suspect is due to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
