While commiserating with the Olubadan-in-Council, Ibadan people and indeed members of the immediate family of the late revered traditional ruler, Governor Amosun said the late Olubadan will be remembered for his fatherly role in nation building.
He described the late monarch, who would have clocked 102 in April 2016, as one of those who laid the foundation for the present day Nigerian nation.

“A veteran of the Second World War, the late Oba Odugade was a seasoned civil servant and a thoroughbred politician, who later became a minister in the First Republic.
“While in the civil service, Oba Odugade was involved in the establishment of both primary and secondary schools in various parts of the old Western Region of Nigeria and voluntarily retired, before being elected to represent his people in the 1959 pre-independence House of Representatives,” Amosun said.
He added that, “as a politician, the late monarch was a success, having been appointed as the Parliamentary Secretary to the late Prime Minister, Alhaji Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, in the country’s First independent cabinet.
“In 1963, he attended the Commonwealth Conference in London and also became the country’s Minister of State for Labour.”
Amosun said the late Ibadan monarch also contributed positively in the international diplomacy arena when in 1964, he led the Nigerian Parliamentary delegation to the London Constitutional Conference to restructure the then British colonies of Rhodesia and Nyasaland, now known as Malawi, Zimbabwe and Zambia.
