See Celebrities Who Are Ondo State’s New Cultural Ambassadors

The Ondo state governor Olusegun Mimiko has unveiled several Nigerian celebrities who will represent the state as cultural ambassadors.

This was made public on Tuesday, January 19 on Twitter by the Ondo state television.

The governor is quoted to have highlighted the importance of leveraging Nigerian celebrities and their overall acclaim as he stated that the true wealth of the state is not in mineral resources but in human resources.

This is a welcome development for the Nigerian entertainment industry especially with more and more celebrities looking to cross over into public service by helping influence the decisions in government and society.

Recall that in October 2015, Seasoned Nollywood actor Lancelot Oduwa-Imasuen who has spent over 20 years in the revealed that the entertainment industry in Nigeria isn’t fully maximized.

While speaking to The Leadership in an exclusive chat, he beckoned on the government to show some support for the arts by recognizing key players in the industry in order to give rise to the needed growth and development.

“I have decided to raise my game and also add more value to my life. Gone are the days when filmmakers are seen as mere entertainers, especially at political gatherings and party campaigns to thrill people alone. This must change. We have to be part of the policy-makers. I have to say this and I believe many will agree with me that we are more connected to the people than the politicians; we influence than the political office holders. If our films can make people stay glued to their seats and make them laugh and cry without seeing us face-to-face, we can make things happen.”

Governor Mimiko on January 19 unveiled music icon King Sunny Ade, and actors Jibola Dabo, Yemi Blaq, Funso Adeolu and Bimbo Oshin among others.
