Mauricio Pochettino open to Gareth Bale return after agreement between Tottenham and Real Madrid is leaked
Mauricio Pochettino has said he would be happy to have Gareth Bale back at Tottenham as controversy continues to swirl over a document that purports to be his transfer agreement with Real Madrid.
Website Football Leaks last night published what it claimed to be the world-record agreement signed between the two sides in 2013.
The world-record deal, which the document shows was worth over €100m, contains a pact that allows Tottenham to match any bid received by a Premier League side up until 30 June 2019.
Bale has been linked with a move to Manchester United in recent months but Pochettino has admitted that were the option to be open to him he would consider signing Bale.
“I don't know – it's about rumour,” the Tottenham manager said of the clause. “If we have the full option to sign him then why not?
“He's a great player and he's a player who can improve our squad. This is the type of profile we [try to] find.”
The 26-year-old Bale left White Hart Lane on good terms when he moved to Spain in 2013 and has spoken in the past of considering a Spurs comeback.
“Tottenham will always have a place in my heart,” he said in 2014. “I hope the fans still love me even though I've moved on.
“I love Spurs fans. You never know, I could come back one day.”
