Post Office workers address mail woes

|||Johannesburg - A Bryanston resident has expressed shock at seeing a post office employee handing out mail to customers outdoors, in the rain.
Catherine Smyth spotted the employee sorting through mail at Sloane Centre while taking shelter from the rain under the eaves of the temporary container where the mail is kept.
This, said the SA Post Office, was a temporary measure while the new post office was being prepared in the centre.
Post Office spokesman Khulani Qoma said: “We are busy fitting the boxes with new locks and customers will be issued with new keys in the near future. Data lines are currently being installed and the office will open immediately when the office is on line and this is expected to happen within days.”
In November last year, the Bryanston post office was evicted from its premises in the Post House Shopping Centre in Bruton Road, for failing to pay rent.
This led to hundreds of customers not receiving their mail for months after the doors were locked.
The SA Post Office was put under administration last year following a poor financial performance. Its board resigned in November following a months-long strike.
The new Post Office is in Sloane Square, on the corner of Sloane and William Nicol Streets - telephone number 011 706 6040. All mail addressed to Bryanston postboxes can now be collected, with identification, from the lobby units at Sloane Square from 8am to 4.30pm on weekdays.
