Why Nigeria has an incredibly bright future – Finance minister explains

Finance minister Kemi Adeosun said Nigeria has an incredibly bright future as long as the country remains disciplined.

Adeosun disclosed this on the floor of the Senate while briefing the lawmakers on the state of the economy. She said Nigeria is still weathering the storm at battling the current crippling economy.

“Nigeria has an incredibly bright future if we can go through this phase. We come out disciplined so that we get maximum value for the naira that we spend as long as Nigeria remains extremely positive,” she said.

Meanwhile, she urged the National Assembly to play a major role on the procurement law.

Adeosun stated that “there are certain areas why we need the support of the national assembly particularly in the area of procurement. The procurement law at the moment has been an inhibiter to the country. We believe that that law has to be amended.”

However, she thanked the apex chamber for passing the budget because it will make a stimulus impact on the country’s economy.

Moreso, the Senate directed the finance minister to appear before it unfailingly on Thursday, July 21 to inform it on monetary and fiscal policies adopted to salvage the economic situation in the country.

The decision followed an observation made by Godswill Akpabio, Minority Leader of the Senate on  the absence of Adeosun.

On the other hand, the minister of finance failed to appear before the Senate at its plenary session on Wednesday, July 20 to give explanations on the state of the economy. Akpabio said the minister ought to have considered the fact that she would be attending the Federal Executive Council meeting when fixing her appointment with the Senate.

The Minority Leader expressed concern that despite knowing that she would not make herself available, she did not notify the red chamber ahead of time.

In an earlier on Thursday, July 21, Kemi Adeosun agreed the nation was in trouble and is really facing serious economic challenges.
