According to The Sun,  Arsenal are preparing to rival Manchester United for Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain.

The source reports that Arsenal title bid has faltered in 2015-16, with the club currently third in the Premier League, and many critics have claimed that a lack of a world-class striker is holding the Gunners back.

It explained: “However, Arsene Wenger is finally set to splash the cash on a marquee forward, and is eyeing a bid for Higuain, who has scored 29 goals in all competitions thus far this season.Arsenal may face competition from United, however, with earlier reports claiming that the Red Devils are poised to put together a staggering £85 million deal for the Argentine.”

Previously it was gathered that Gonzalo Higuain could be signed either by Liverpool or Arsenal.

However, the forward said: “Sarri? He convinced me with his sincerity. It took five minutes for him to convince me to stay, and he got the best out of me. So far this has been the best year of my career, but we have to be perfect to win. It’s hard to top the record of 35 goals in a Serie A season, but I hope I can make it.”
