Reports of 'hostage situation' turns out to be mere disturbance
Update 2.14pm - Situation under control
Police showed up in full force to deal with a report of a potential hostage situation in Birkirkara this afternoon but found themselves dealing with a mere disturbance.
Reports which reached the police initially claimed that a person had taken hostages at Villa Chelsea but upon arriving on the scene the police arrested a man who had caused chaos inside the home.
According to reports, a man charged into the home for people with mental health problems and detained a woman. It is not known if the man who is being held by the police is a resident in the home.
A spokesman for the police later soon clarified that there was never a hostage situation.
Villa Chelsea is run by the Richmond Foundation. A Foundation spokesperson told Times of Malta that things are back to normal, with patients safe and back at the home.
