Issue 24 of Arab Revolt’s mouthpiece reprinted

AMMAN — The Jordan Times distributes on Thursday the 24th issue of Al Qibla newspaper, the mouthpiece of the Great Arab Revolt.

The four-page newspaper dedicates its four pages to a lengthy coverage of regional and tribal representatives coming to Mecca to pay allegiance to King Hussein Bin Ali, who declared Hijaz a Kingdom after he launched the revolt in June 1916.

The practice revived an early Islamic ritual when people of the country send delegates to make vows of loyalty to a new leader.

Some of the delegate leaders gave speeches, reciting poetry about the Arabs’ joy for getting rid of the Ottoman rule and the return of leadership to their own, especially the Hashemites, the descendants of Prophet Mohammad.

Other news items were relevant, like a visit carried out by King Hussein to the prime ministry offices.

The distribution of Al Qibla by The Jordan Times and other local dailies is part of celebrations of the centennial of the Great Arab Revolt.
