Artists Switch Off TVs Playing European Soccer, Chaos Ensues

How much do Europeans love their football? Well, just look what happens when it’s ripped away from them with no warning, transforming seas of cheers into cries of shock and horror.

The artists Markus Butkereit and The Wa conducted the above social experiment during the recently ended Euro 2016 championship. They infiltrated football-watching parties at bars and public spaces in Berlin, settling in for a few minutes before switching off TVs with some kind of hidden remote. The result: darkness and chaos, as people performed frantic IT work to get the games back on the screen.

One art appreciator has described the prank as großartig!! or “great!”, but here’s guessing many at the watching parties would love to give the artists a großartig!! Zidane headbutt.
